Adults in Scouting
You’re never too old to join the adventurous life of Scouts! Share your passion and help shape the life of a Scout.
Scouting offers a wealth of rewarding opportunities and unique experiences for Adults as well as youth members. At 5th Ballarat we believe the future of our group is shaped by the adults that support us. The Scouting motto is Youth Led, Adult Supported.
Adults help drive our youth to reach their fullest potential and get the most out of this exciting adventure. The personal satisfaction of helping young people to achieve their goals is immense, and your sense of personal achievement when you help them through a hurdle is nearly as strong as theirs!
So how can I be part of the Scouting family at 5th Ballarat Scouts?
It goes without saying we are always looking for adults/parents to join as Leaders or Parent Helpers.
It is a rewarding experience to go through the Scouting journey with your own kids, and making a difference to young people’s lives. This is your chance to provide input into the program and help shape the journey of our youth members. And, like everything in life, what you put into scouting is what you’ll get out of scouting.
If leadership isn’t your thing then you can come and just help out as an Adult Helper or Group Rostered Parent. An Adult Helper can assist on a weekly basis in addition to extra activities such as camps and major events. A Group Rostered Parent is limited to 2 nights a term and one extra activity.
All registered adults must:
- Obtain a Working with Children Check – (A teachers WWCC is not permitted)
- Register with Scouts Victoria via the Group Leader
- Complete 2 mandatory eLearning Modules to get you started
Adult Helpers and Leaders are required to complete an additional reference check and a police check.
What else do I need to do to be a Leader in addition to the above?
- Get invested as an assistant leader
- Complete additional eLearning Modules
- Complete 2 face to face training weekends - these are a great experience
Whilst this looks like a lot, once invested you can jump straight into being an assistant leader. The eLearning modules and training are completed over a 6 – 12 month period. More information is available on the Scouts Victoria website: https://scoutsvictoria.com.au/age-sections-adults/training/
