Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I try Scouts before committing?

Yes definitely. Scouts has a Three for Free policy so come along and try it out. Usually most families decide within one or two nights if the want to continue.

Please make contact with the section leader or group leader if you want any further information before making a commitment.

  • Team App - This is the team communication platform that 5th Ballarat Scout Group utilises for communication with families. Each section runs its own group within Team App and uses it for weekly communication and notification of upcoming events. Once you have joined our group parents and youth members will be added into Team App so that you get the latest updates. Visit https://5thballaratscoutgroup.teamapp.com

Facebook - We use use private Facebook groups for unofficial communication and to show families what we've been up to. If you don't have Facebook then that is fine as we ensure anything important is communicated via other channels.

Email and Text - We still use email, and from time to time a text message if we are just after some quick information.

  • Operoo is the platform that Scouts Victoria uses to capture important medical information about all of its members. Operoo is also widely used by schools for the same purpose.

By having all the medical information in one location it make it easier for leaders and those further up the chain to access the data if the need arises ie an emergency.

When you register you'll be sent a link inviting you to either sign up to Operoo or share your existing youth member data. An up to date Operoo profile is a mandatory requirement of Scouting membership. Visit https://www.operoo.com

  • If you are just visiting, dropping off or picking up your youth member from the hall then no you don't need a WWCC.

If you decide you want to help out with the youth members on a program night or assist with travel then you do need a WWCC.

If you decide you want to become a Group Rostered Parent, Adult Helper or Leader then you need a WWCC and will be asked to supply the card number when registering with Scouts Victoria.

We recommend every parent gets a WWCC then they are covered if the need arises.

Go to https://service.vic.gov.au/services/working-with-children to register. It's free if you register as a volunteer.

You'll need to add in the organisation codes 10 and 42. You'll also need to add in the below as the organisation details, not the 5th Ballarat details.

      152 Forster Road,
      Mount Waverley VIC 3149
      Tel: 03 8543 9800

  • We often need support with major purchases from camping gear through to hall maintenance and upgrades.

By fundraising we've been able to purchase 2 trailers, assist members to get to major events and purchase much needed camping gear.

If you run a business within the Ballarat area and are able to provide support to our group we’d love to chat and see what we can do.

We are currently in process of updating our bathroom facilities and would appreciate any in-kind support from labour through to materials.

We are also seeking support with a major tent repurchase along with general hall maintenance and upgrading some plumbing around the hall.
