5th Ballarat Scout Group

Welcome to Scouting at 5th Ballarat Scout Group

Thank you for visiting the 5th Ballarat Scout Group website.

5th Ballarat Scouts is made up of a dynamic and energetic group of youth members aged from 5 - 18 years looking to explore the world around them.

Scouting at 5th Ballarat has shaped the development of youth for more than 100 years. We are a part of an organisation that is in every part of our community and that is one of the biggest and most successful youth organisations in Australia and in the world.

At 5th Ballarat we aim to provide an adventurous, fun, challenging and inclusive program for our youth members, teaching them life skills and leadership. In Victoria there are more than 17,000 youth members and 5,000 adult volunteers with registration numbers booming.

Scouting is very much about being Youth Led and Adult Supported, helping to guide and encourage our Youth Members to explore the world outside of their comfort zone. We invite you to be part of the journey.

Our Scouting Sections

Scouts are divided into 5 sections depending on the youth members age which enables us to deliver a program that suits your youth members age. At 5th Ballarat Scout Group we run programs for the following 4 scouting sections: Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venturers. Please click through to discover a bit more about each section.

Everyone is welcome to come and try out scouting at 5th Ballarat. We look forward to seeing you.

  • 01Make Contact

Firstly make contact via our contact form or email the group leader at gl.5thballarat@scoutsvictoria.com.au to learn more about the best section for you and meeting night information.

  • 02

You can try-out Scouting for three nights without obligation - all you need to do is complete a New Member Form, which we’ll send to you, and provide medical details for the first meeting to provide immediate insurance cover through Scouts Australia.

  • 03

Once you’ve decided scouting is for you we’ll start the registration process. We’ll use the info from the New Member Form to send out an Invitation to Join / Welcome to 5th Ballarat email. Follow the “Click here to apply link” to add in your registration details including emergency contacts.

  • 04

At this point we will also send you an invoice for the remainder of the billing cycle (see fees for more information). We will specify the required amount required before we officially register you. This is mostly the Scouts Victoria fee and a New Member Fee.

  • 05

Buy yourself a shirt – see Useful links for the details, we’ll also add these details into our welcome email.

Once you have a shirt we will invest you into a group at which point you are an proud member of the 5th Ballarat Scout Group. Welcome aboard.

Consider where the parents can help out – be a group rostered parent or adult helper. Join the group committee, or be bold and put on a shirt as a leader. Trust me it’s a great experience.

Australian Scout Promise and Scout Law

The Australian Scout Promise & Law are the main ways we choose to express our values, and the main tools we use to explore the fundamentals of Scouting with youth members. In this way, we see the Promise & Law's role as an element of the Scout Method.

The Scout Promise Option 1

On my honour, I promise
To do my best,
To be true to my spiritual beliefs,
To contribute to my community and our world,
To help other people,
And to live by the Scout Law

The Scout Promise Option 2

On my honour
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to my God, and
To the King of Australia,
To help other people, and
To live by the Scout Law

The Scout Law

Be Respectful
Be friendly and considerate
Care for others and the environment

Do What is Right
Be trustworthy, honest and fair
Use resources wisely

Believe in Myself
Learn from my experience
Face challenges with courage
